Margaret Mines (1926-2010)Margaret S. Mines, a native of Cartersville, GA, began her artistic journey by winning an art scholarship from Federal Arts Schools in Minneapolis, MN while still in high school. She later received her BA degree in Fine Arts from Wesleyan College in Macon, GA. After graduation, she augmented her studies by participating in workshops conducted by nationally and internationally recognized artists.
Ms. Mines began her career as a graphic designer before
concentrating on painting as a free lance artist. She taught art
education in the public school system as well as offered
private
lessons and workshops. For many years she hosted a children’s summer
art camp at her home.
The years of experience and training culminate in a distinctive and
realistic personal style that is fresh and direct. She preferred the
challenging transparency of watercolor although she had
worked
extensively in oil, pastel and with pen and ink. Her subject matter
has
a wide range but her preference
was
for landscapes and
architectural structures. Ms. Mines exhibited her work in many juried national and international shows and won numerous awards, including the prestigious Cultural Heritage and Distinguished Service Awards. She recently received the Kordecki Award for Contributions to the Arts presented by the Cartersville, Bartow County Convention and Visitors Bureau. Her work may be seen in private collections and in public offices throughout the country. |
